Some Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions do you treat? Dr. Plener treats many conditions with a special focus on spine related conditions.

What treatment do you offer? The type of treatment depends on your conditions but typically a combination of joint mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, neural mobilization, exercises and education are provided.

Will I get better? Many factors are used determine your expected recovery. The majority of patients report significant improvements in their function and pain levels.

What can I expect on my first visit? In order to determine the appropriate treatment, a thorough history and physical examination needs to be performed. Your first visit will consist of a history, physical examination and explanation of your diagnosis.

Will I have to do exercises? Exercises are critically important for the success of treatment. Dr. Plener will provide you specific exercises to do that are safe. Most of the exercises require no equipment and can be done in the comfort of your home!

Dr. Plener utilizes the highest quality evidence as well as his clinical experience and shared decision making with patients in order to guide your treatment. This approach ensures you are receiving the best possible care.  In addition to using the latest research when recommending treatment approaches, Dr. Plener has contributed to the scientific literature in order to advance our current knowledge of different conditions and treatments.

Dr. Plener strives to provide a patient-centered approach for all his patients. He uses a biopsychosocial approach to help return patients to their meaningful functional goals through education, hands-on care, and rehabilitation exercises. By educating his patients, Dr. Plener ensures his patients understand their condition, what can help relieve their symptoms, and promote improved daily function.

Some of Dr. Plener’s research consists of interviewing patients in order to understand how their condition impacts their everyday experiences. This work has provided valuable information in order to deliver a patient-centered treatment approach that addresses each individuals’ unique needs.

Awards and Recognitions:

Dr. Plener was awarded the prestigious Early Career Chiropractor Award from the Ontario Chiropractic Association which is awarded to a chiropractor who demonstrates outstanding promise, achievement and commitment to enhancing the chiropractic profession. In addition, Dr. Plener was awarded the respected Canadian Chiropractic Association Young Investigator Award. This is awarded to a chiropractor who is a young researcher working in the field of chiropractic.
